Ocypus brunnipes (Fabricius, 1781)
One of the Rove Beetles (Staphylinoidea) Ocypus brunnipes seems quite common under logs in parts of Sherwood Forest. There are several similar species, so an accurate ID is often difficult. This is quite a large species, the one photographed measuring around 13mm.
